We look forward to another important step forward for the Gualala Community Center and appreciate everyone who takes part in helping shape GCC’s future.
The Gualala Community Center (GCC) would like to share an update with our community regarding recent legal activity involving the organization.
A complaint was filed by a GCC member related to a past Board election. As part of that action, a request was made to the Mendocino County Superior Court for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) that would have restricted the Board from carrying out certain duties on behalf of GCC. On April 10, 2026, the Court denied the request for a Temporary Restraining Order. The Court determined that the request did not meet the legal standard required for such relief. GCC remains fully operational, and the Board of Directors continues to carry out its responsibilities in service to the organization and the community. As this is an ongoing legal matter, GCC will not be commenting on specific details at this time. We remain committed to transparency and will share updates as appropriate. GCC has consulted with legal counsel and will continue to act in accordance with applicable laws and organizational bylaws. The Board’s focus continues to be on supporting our programs, serving our community, and moving forward with the rebuilding of the Gualala Community Center. We appreciate your continued support and trust.

The Gualala Community Center (GCC) rebuilding project has been recognized on Congressman Jared Huffman’s Community Projects webpage, highlighting the importance of the project to the South Mendocino and North Sonoma Coast communities.
Originally built by local volunteers in 1954 from old-growth redwood, the Gualala Community Center served for decades as the region’s primary gathering place. The building hosted senior lunches, community celebrations, weddings, memorials, classes, and town meetings. It was also home to the twice-monthly Pay ’n’ Take sales and served as a polling location during elections. The historic facility was tragically destroyed by an arson fire on February 13, 2023. Plans for the new facility focus on creating a modern, resilient space designed to better serve the community. The proposed building includes a commercial kitchen for large community events, flexible meeting and classroom spaces for local organizations, and emergency readiness features such as a generator and charging stations for use during extended power outages. Janet Pierucci, President of the GCC Board of Directors, expressed gratitude for the federal support that made the project possible. “Without Congressman Huffman’s advocacy and the Community Project Funding process, this rebuild would not have been possible for our small, unincorporated town of about 2,000 people. The funding received will help us rebuild our building and give our community a vibrant place to gather for special events and a place to be safe in times of need.” The GCC Board continues to move forward with rebuilding plans and will share updates with the community as the project progresses.
